Just a quick poll to find out what Saltwater fish you fish for most.

I just registered, then voted in the poll about my favorite angling target (red drum). Before I voted, I noticed that only about red drum gathered only about 5+% of the vote, but after my vote, it jumped to about 11%. Wow!! I doubled the tally for red drum! The power of the vote!! (Great website, BTW)! :)

Hi Rye. Welcome to the site. Not sure when Litetakl will be back on, but I know he's done some big drum fishing on the Neuse River/Pamlico Sound. There is a great picture of him in the Photo gallery with a bid red caught while fishing with Oriental, NC guide George Beckwith. George and the other Oriental guides are some of the best I've heard of at finding those bad boys. Also some great Tarpon fishing down that way in July/August.

Where do you do most of your fishing and for what Rye?

I voted king mackerel as we have always been lucky live baiting for them, but actually I have a split decission. Running off shore to the grass lines and fly fishing for dolphin-- it doesn't get any better than that.

cwood---Run off shore to grass lines. When you find them cruise parallel and watch for many flying fish, then start drifting and fishing. I've been making my own lures so long I can't advise to whats commercially hot right now.If you use artificial distance casting is not important you have to move lure at the speed of a back cast. If you want to catch more fish and not be fancy use a plain hook on leader and use cut bait squid, mullet, blue, etc. best of all cut a dolphin into small strips. When they stop hitting pick up move on and find more.

For equipement I take two rods one 9ft.8wt. 100yds 20# backing for small stuff.
For heavy weight I carry a Lews 9ft. graphite 9-13 Speedstick with with a Billy Pate spooled with 11wt. SA wf floating with several hundred yds. 20# backing.
I use 12# or 15# leader.
Good Luck!

This is a very difficult poll to make a selection of just one so I vote other because I enjoy multiple species. Surf fishing I really like to catch chopper blues and red drum equally as well as black drum. I would much rather go after big grouper offshore but it is not as finacially feasible as surf fishing. Of course when headboat fishing for grouper there is always the opportunity to light line for mahi depending what time if the year it is and that is action that is hard to beat.......................Man!!! I like catching them all!!! I have landed 2 documented citation marlins and as far as a long and exciting fight they are hard to top but I have caught pin fish on ultra light tackle that seemed just as exciting............What can I say? There is no real right choice here, at least not for me!
