Hi folks. We had a surprising large turnout on Sunday at the Bass & Saltwater Fishing Expo. Mike and I really enjoyed meeting those of you that stopped by the booth and thank you for your support of NCangler.com by your participation in our forums and your support of other anglers. We sold enough fishing tackle to cover the cost of our booth, which was our goal. We are excited to be an online source in our eStore for the Blue Water Candy line and we'll be adding a few more lines that Mike discovered at the Expo. I believe 2008 is going to be a great year for the growth of NCangler.com. Thank you for being a part of it.
Special thanks to these members who stopped by the booth on Sunday.
Hi folks. We had a great day at the Bass & Saltwater Fishing Expo in the Jim Graham Building at the fairgrounds. Thanks to all who stopped by. We gave out of NCangler.com cards and hope to have a flurry of new members join our online fishing community. Thanks to our current members who stopped by today. We took a picture of all that would let us (and yes the camera still works!).
Hi fellow NCanglers! Topsail Angler and I have our booth setup at the fairgrounds in the Jim Graham building across from Chatlee and Wooten's Marine. I hope you'll drop by to say hello. We're posting pictures of our members that come by.
"Now in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus, that a census be taken of all the inhabited earth. This was the first census taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. And everyone was on his way to register for the census, each to his own city. Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, in order to register along with Mary, who was engaged to him, and was with child. While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened. But the angel s... [Read More]
I had the pleasure yesterday to fish with Topsail Angler, Mike Becker, out of his home waters in Hampstead. A good friend from my church, Richard Dennis, and I left my house around 4:45AM and trailered my 21' center console to Mike's home in Hampstead. We had the boat in the water and were heading toward the inlet by 7:30.
It was a gorgeous ride to the inlet just after sunrise and the water was like glass.
We headed out of the inlet and toward our first stop. You can see how smoot the ride was. A large pod of dolphins were playing just offshore.
We headed out about 15 miles and found some active bottom. Richard and I were bottom fishing with dead baits (squid and sardines) while Mike starting working his new Shimano Butterfly rig. In addition to some very nice Black Sea Bass, Mike picked up this Octopus on the Shimano.
What an interesting creature.
Here are some photos of Mike and Richard fishing and enjoying the day.

Saturday was a beautiful day and I was excited to have the opportunity to do a little Crappie fishing with Jordan Lake guide Steve Stephens of Hot Spot Charters. I met Steve at the Ebenezer Boat ramp at 12:15, where he had just dropped off a morning charter, a husband and wife wanting to learn the technique of trolling of Jordan Lake stripers. We headed over to the Beaver Creek area of the lake and slow trolled minnows for several hours. Fishing was a bit slow but we managed to put 12 keepers in the live well including a very nice Crappie that weighed over 2.5 pounds by the Boca grip scale. Many thanks to Steve for an enjoyable day on the water. The fish will be cooking in about 30 minutes.
If you're looking for a great day of fishing for Striped Bass or Crappie contact Steve Stephens of Hot Spot Charters. Steve is a great source of fishing infor... [Read More]

You know, it is never easy to find the right combination of time off work, an opening in our family schedule and favorable weather conditions at the coast for some saltwater fishing. Thus I only make about 4-5 trips to the coast each year at this point in our lives. So I started looking at freshwater options that are closer to home and potentially more doable. As a result I went fishing for Striped Bass for the first time on Wednesday morning. I had booked a charter with Capt. Troy Roberson of Striper-Sniper.com a couple months back and have been anxiously awaiting the opportunity to learn how to catch this beautiful fish of the freshwater variety.
It had rained hard most of the day on Tuesday and into Tuesday night. I awoke aroun... [Read More]
