The Stripers are still biting, the only problem is the long boat ride to get them. Friday, the bite was hot, Saturday slow, Sunday its was too ruff, and today it only lasted for about a hour. I was out with Tom Gillam of Southern Shores casting bucktails. We could have caught more trolling, but decided on the action of casting. Fish were rolling on the surface and hitting everything in sight. These were a nice 30lb class fish. The weather is not looking good the rest of the week. I do have some open dates for Stripers. Give me a call.
Thanks, Ray

Thanks for the report Ray - pretty fish. Just how long is a "L O N G" boat ride to an hour worth of striper action?

No, really... What does a guide consider a long boat ride for an hour worth of 30lb surface action (not sure I care - sign me up!). Is this the kind of thing you could do in a half-day trip or are you talking about running several hours each way?

My last several trips were 150 miles round trip. Usually my trips are 20-40 miles. I could do a half day trip if someone wanted to pay extra for me to run that far wide open, fish for an hour, then run wide open back, plus there is not many days in the ocean I can run 58 MPH. The last two trips Striper fish were bad. Zero fish. I can count on one hand, the times last year I caught zero. I dont think they are gone, but maybe pushed offshore. The guys in Va. have caught some 8 miles out,but that is all catch & release. If you get caught with one outside the 3 mile line, its big money fine.
I'm starting to take deposits on Cobia trips. If you snooze, you loose.

Tight lines, Ray
