This is going to be a little off the subject but something to think about. And not everyone will agree with me.
Big blues and flatheads. Delicious.
Smaller Blues and flatheads. Better
Channel cats between 2-5 lbs. Best and most plentiful (usually)
The other thing to think about is the amount of fish you are catching and keeping and there sizes. The medium sized fish are more plentiful and not near as old as the "bigger ones". Think about the fishery you are in and how the removal of bigger fish for table fare will deminish the "trophy" catching possibilities. I don't mean to sound like I'm preaching, just conserving.
As for me, in Mt. Island lake, I don't usually keep any blue catfish though I used to. If I want to eat I grab my ultralite tackle and some worms or white perch filets, which are plentiful here, and set up shop where I know the channels will be and keep the sizes mentioned above.
