My best brook trout to date. This fish fell victim to a size 24 midge pattern I tied up before the adventure. It's hard to believe these fish can see such a small fly. I could see this guy arch up and charge the fly when it hit the water! I love the acrobatics in the brook trout. fortunately I was able to turn the tables and get the net under him in less than thirty seconds. The release was text book with him taking off out of my hands before I was ready to send him on the way. The fish measured out at 14 1/4 and must of been almost 3lbs. This male brook was in full fall rut colors, and was full of milk. The mouth was completely blacked out with teeth like a piranha. It's just a miracle I didn't get cut off on my 5x tippet. The Kype jaw was definitely present with a real nice hump back in the works. This fish will be just AMAZING in another year.
Just another great day on WNC streams!
