Default 9/18 near the ne big rock

went offshore out of beaufort inlet to the big rock (ne corner) and a little beyond. it was a bit rough going out and coming back in my 25', but wanted to see if the post-storm and full moon axiom was true. only saw two other boats the whole day. we couldn't find the blue water until about a mile beyond the ne corner of the big rock. we found a long weed line there. the offshore side was blue, the inshore side was green. lots of baitfish and flying fish. we caught two gaffers and numerous bailers in the blue water, but no wahoo or tuna. had one bite that might have been a billfish judging only by the way the ballyhoo was munched on. water temp never got above 79.3. boats up north were catching tuna. we saw one gathering of birds that might have been over a tuna school, but never saw any of them.

bought my boat in august, so got a late start in my serious saltwater fishing attempts this year...i'm trying to catch a billfish mainly. looks like i'll have to wait til next year. off to the nc mountains Oct 1 to flyfish for trout. i'd like to find some other folks around here who billfish and flyfish. i'm real green and learning about the billfishing, but a competent mountain trout flyfisher.
