Default New Bern 12-27-07

Today My Neighbor and I took a trip to New Bern to try our luck on some Striper. The morning Started off cold!! The short ride from the boat dock to the fishing hole was a windy one that almost made you want to turn around and go home. Yeah Right!!! Anyway, we got there and started casting out eels. The action started right away. Every once in a while he would throw out an artificial bait of different types but I dont think the bass even raised an eyebrow at the fake stuff. And since I was satisfied with my current bait, I fished with it all day. We were fishing the eels straight off the hook, no extra weight and this is how the Stripers wanted them. He had one pole set up with a float and an eel about 2 ft off the bottom but it didnt see any action all day either. With this setup, we took our creel limit by a little around noon and just played around the rest of the day. The fish were real active right around 8am then it tapered off till around 10 then picked up again a few times. But by around 4pm they had completely quit. I think It would have picked up again right around dark but instead we picked up and headed out to the dock. Hope this report is informative enough and I will try to write more another time. Thanks for reading.
