I know this isn't a fishing report but it is a report albeit a sad one. Mr. John "Doug" Haste succumbed to cancer this week. Doug and his brother Les were great friends to me. Some of you knew Doug Haste of Holly Ridge/Hampstead. Doug owned Doug's Bait and Tackle/Fishing Line on Hwy 50 about a mile outside of Holly Ridge going to Surf City. Doug always gave me and anyone I took to his store a big discount. I don't know how he stayed open giving the discounts to his friends that he did because everyone Doug ever met was a friend. Doug loved surf fishing and once ran a pier on Topsail. A finer man and fisherman will never wade the suds.
