Question Inshore Tuna

Went out yesterday afternoon out of Masonboro Inlet. Didn't catch anything but we saw multiple schools of what I believe where blue fin tuna skying all around only a 1/4 mile off the beach. The fish were three to four feet long, dark blue black on top and light colored on the bottom. The little fins behind the dorsal were yellow. They were not false albies or bonito. Any idea what there were and more important, what there were eating so we can catch them next time.
