Went out to Wake Forest Reservoir again last weekend. It was very windy blowing from the dam out so I put 2 rods out with with egg sinkers, swivel and snelled gold hooks with live minnows.
First fish in the kayak (ever!) was a small bass. Caught a nice crappie next, then several more before having to paddle back against the wind. The trolling minnow bucket tied to the side carry handle slowed my drift some but a drift chute will be my next purchase.
I paddled back a ways against the wind then anchored and fished. My anchor trolley system worked well and I could position the wind directly at my back, as it was blowing pretty good. The anchor spool also worked well. It is much easier hauling the line in then using the spool than using the spool to wind the works into the kayak. I did put a rubber handle (knob) on the spool to make line takeup easier.
My last anchor point was near the aerators by the dam. Caught a few more small crappies and another small bass. No fish were permanently harmed (except for the minnows) and a good time was had by all.
