Lake Rim - Fayetteville 4/19 Hello all, decided to try out the much talked about Lake Rim today, and I did not get exactly what I was expecting. When we first pulled up I thought "this is a really nice lake!" and I got excited and was ready to put in. The boat ramp is pretty decent and has a nice dock to walk out on to load the boat. I did notice that the water was kind of shallow at the ramp and I had to back waaay back in the lake to get the boat off, but it was not too bad, the ramp is concrete so plenty of traction to pull out. There is plenty of parking in the area and there is also a nice pier to walk out and fish on. After I parked the truck I started noticing the dozens and dozens of beer cans and bottles everywhere. At first I didn't pay much attention but the more I looked the more trash and cans I saw. There were all kinds of trash out there and when I was walking back to the boat I saw at least 3 or 4 used umm "contraceptives" on the ground which really made me mad because there were at least 20 people out there fishing from the bank especially some small kids.
On to the fishing...We put in and started fishing clockwise around the lake. The lake is really really nice. The lake actually reminds me of black river with the water color and clarity and all the trees and structure in the water. The one thing that ruined the trip was the coon tail moss. There are HUGE moss beds that extend 40 feet or so from the bank in some places. This made it SUPER aggravating to fish. It was hard to get into rhythm with constantly having to pull the trolling motor up and maneuvering the boat through the moss. The lake has nice depth to it. I was getting about 5-8 feet pretty much the whole day. My girlfriend caught the first bass about 45 mins into fishing. I will post a pic when I get them uploaded. It was a small bass that she caught on a Texas Rigged Grape Shad culprit worm. That was the only bite either of us had on a worm. I caught 1 Jack (chain pickerel) that was about 12 inches long on a double colorado chart/white spinnerbait. I had numerous hits on the spinnerbait but I believe they were smaller fish, in fact I saw one hit it right at the boat that was probably about a 6 inch bass or so. Both fish were caught in the pocket down from the 2nd pier.
As I said many times before this is a very nice lake, I just don't think there are many fish in there. we saw alot of fish breaking the water but I couldn't tell if they were bream or bass or something else. I didn't see any people on the bank catching anything and I talked to a few people and they all said they hadn't caught anything. It kind of sucks because this lake is about 30 mins from me, and it is a very nice place, but I think the lack of fish, the trashy boat ramp and trash floating in the lake, and the huge moss beds killed it for me. I don't think I will be going back unless I hear that people are catching alot of fish. |
