Hello All, got the chance to go to Sutton Lake today with my Grandpa and all in all it was a pretty good trip. We put in about 6:45 this morning and the lake was really foggy, so we slowly cruised up the left side and started fishing about 100 yards from the first point (where the buoy is located). We were staying around the outer edge of the deep channel, casting to the bank and bringing the bait out to the deeper water. I was fishing with a Green Pumpkin Zoom Brush Hog and my grandpa was fishing with a motor oil worm with a chartreuse tail. About 20 yards past the buoy I caught the first fish that was about a pound a half (see pics below). We fished around the edge of the lake, past the mouth of the creek that the water runs out of and on up the side with only 2 or 3 bites but no fish. We saw lots of bass breaking the water, some to the extent of actually jumping out of the water, but we couldn't catch any.
We decided to go to the second lake and started fishing the dike and did not catch any fish. It was in the second lake where we learned the bass were schooling and I have never had any luck with they are schooling. Fish were breaking all over the place and we threw fluke's, grubs, spoons, x-rap's and buzzbaits, but we could not entice any to bite. We decided then to head to lake #6.
We started throwing worms again and I lost 1 bass on a black grape worm and 1 on the brush hog. My grandpa also lost one on a watermelon seed lizard. The bass started breaking the water again and I caught 2 on a silver/black x-rap and grandpa caught 1 on a silver/black countdown minnow. One of mine was about a pound the other was about 2 pounds as was the one my grandpa caugt. The fish continued to break the water but we could not catch anymore.
All in all it was a good trip, first sutton lake trip in about 8 years. Water temp was reading 77 degrees at the first lake and 70 at lake #6. I don't know if my temp gauge on my depth finder is right but the water was very warm at lake 1 and a little cooler at #6. We also saw about a 10-12 pound gar swim within 2 feet of the boat. Didn't know there were any gar in there but I guess they are. Sorry about the pic quality, it was with my phone.
