Default Too much line on reel?

I have a question for you more experienced fisherman. If you put too much line on the reel, will it cause it to break? I had mentioned earlier, I was not putting enough line first, now I am worried about too much. I put new thread on two of my three baitcasters. Both reels experienced breaks in the line while casting (causing me to just throw away 2, $5 crankbaits). I am trying to figure out if I somehow damaged the line while spooling. One thought came that maybe there is too much line on? I could tell a huge difference by putting on more line. I could cast a mile. I did notice the line hitting one of the cross bars on the reel. I fish with a abu garcia 5500c3. I have 10lb mono on it. I believe abu garcia's site states 12/205 yards max. I don't know the max with 10lb though?

Any help would be appreciated.

I am debating buying new string again?

I used a spooling box, that holds the line while spooling..wondering if that caused damage as well?

I purchased the bps tourney tough string. It was on sale and I was purchasing other items from them. It received good reviews. I am trying to trouble shoot this here!

I am thinking way to much for fishing

Be Blessed, Mike
