Back From Iraq and looking to make up for lost fishing time... Hello,
I am a Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune and quickly closing in on my 11 year mark in the Corps. I grew up fishing the Great Lakes (mostly Huron) and all of the rivers, streams, lakes, and creeks in Michigan. I spent 5 years fishing the saltwater in Cali while stationed at Pendleton and then deployed for my 3rd tour in Iraq shortly after arriving to Camp Lejeune.
I have only fished the little ponds on base so far, but now I have a boat... It is only a little 14' Starcraft aluminum fishing boat with a 9.9 Mariner, but it is enough to get off the shore and run around New River Inlet and the Intercostal and anywhere else within trailering distance.
I also try to hunt (bow and gun) as much as possible, but it seems like I have been deployed or had other military obligations that have made me miss the past few seasons.
I fish for just about anything, it does not matter to me if I can eat it or not. I just like to catch fish. If anyone knows of any spots in the New River worth fishing, I would apprecietate the advice.
I like to go with light tackle when possible... Mostly spinning reel with light line, but when appropriate I break out the levelwinds and heavy rods. Largest fish to date: 38# Halibut on a chovi on 12# line while bottom mooching for sand bass off of Oceanside, CA. Favorite fishing spot: The Bend on the "Two Hearted River" in the upper penninsula of Michigan during the Steelhead run. |
