Default Emerald Isle, 5/26/2008

launched from the island harbor marina and fished several hrs of a rising tide near the hwy 58 bridge at EI. marina was packed but didn't see another kayaker in the marsh -- only a couple of boats fishing nearby, and they didn't hang around. caught a nice 18.5" drum (image attached) on my first cast with a rootbeer GULP! swimming mullet on a 1/8 oz. read jig head. thought it was gonna be a great day of catching, but after that just spooked drum all over that marsh for hours. would work an oyster bar hard, only to paddle by it and then spook several drum -- it was not unusual to spook (what appeared to be) a dozen or more drum in one location. so plenty of drum around, just not buying what i was selling this weekend (!). // joel
