I have been introduced to tournament kayak fishing and I think I liked it. Maybe some correlation to the results and the amount of stuff I wound up bringing home, but I had a great time.
The lake isn't on my favorites list for hot weather fishing, but a good sized venue for an event like this - about 6 miles of water with the launch right in the middle.
Hung out some with skooteri, stukayakfish and tilly. ReelinHeel was the master of ceremonies. Yak4fish was there but had to watch, due to the nature of his professional status.
20 competitors, tons of prizes, not so many fish. We fished from 8:30 to 2, which was probably a little later than primetime for Brandt. Nice cloud deck in the first couple hours kept it comfortable.
The bass photo&release division was more win-able than I expected. The top 3 were 15.75 inches (Dan McWhorter, Raleigh), 15.5 inches (me) and 13.something.
The winner of the panfish division brought 3lbs worth of yellow perch & bluegil back to the weigh-in. Two others, including our own skooteri were smart enough to bring 1 panfish each back to the weigh-in so they got 2nd & 3rd place prizes.
I caught my bass on a 1/8oz shaky head rig and a 5" yamamoto cut-tail worm in junebug.
