Re: Crankbait Rod You could go with flouro...it is usually a smaller diameter than mono...but it has much less stretch. If flouro is used, the rod should have even slower action.
It is true, slow reel speeds can help with most cranking, and if you have enough budget for a totally separate cranking set up, a good way to go. Some use a 4:something ratio, but in the 5:something is ok.
I actually prefer a prefer flouro-coated mono for the stretch, and many of the anglers I have spoken with prefer the mono for most situations.
Really, it will be what you feel most comfortable with and how much you can afford to spend.
