Default Cell Phones and Speckled Trout

Last Sunday afternoon the weather was beautiful. The wind had shifted to a favorable direction, a good time to try speckled trout fishing. I had already decided to fish from my kayak and enjoy a little solitude. My neighbor and his son were launching a skiff to do the same. Since we were not fishing together the ten mile wrong direction rule was in full effect.

Later on, I was all laid back in my kayak at trout hole (C) fishing, not catching, with my ultra light gear when my cell phone rings. I fumble into my tackle bag and remove my cell phone. It was my good neighbor, he had just called to let me know they had caught nine keepers and were still catching.....I was so pleased to hear from him.

Now bear in mind, I only carry my cell phone fishing due to health reasons. If I should get short of breath while out on the water I may have to call 911 and summons Cedar Island Fire and Rescue to come and hoist my kayak and me out of the water. On second thought, maybe this is not a good idea. Should this happen, the local reporter for The Carteret Times will most certainly write a feature article about the whole event. In the process this would reveal the exact location of one of these lucrative and seclusive trout fishing locations.

Now back to the cell phone issue, if I could only get my hands on my neighbor's cell phone (he owns one of those tiny chrome plated models,) I am going to drill a hole in each end. On one end I am going to attach a split ring and a 2/0 treble hook. To the other end I am going to tie to my fishing line. I am going to cruise up to the Pamlico Sound then I am going to cast his cell phone as far as I can.

This might solve two problems:

1. Eliminate intimidating phone calls while fishing.
2. His cell phone might be the perfect trout lure and maybe I will catch a trout.

I will keep you informed.
