Time: 5:30 am Date: July 1980? Location: end of Jennett's pier Nag's Head
Early one morning just after I had set out my king rig some greenhorn comes walking up the pier with a zebco 202 claiming he was going to catch a king. Yeah right! I promptly told him that he was under gunned and I would go back to the pierhouse with him and see if we could rent a more appropriate set up, as I was about to go eat breakfast at the grill. No he said that every fish he'd ever caught had been on a zebco 202 and he didn't care to learn how to use that ' stuff ' we were using. I tried to explain that IFa king hit his bait he wouldn't have a chance of landing it and his reel would be useless if his line didn't immediately break. Still he stood by his trusty 202." No way! You're just wasting your time" I said. Some of the other guys decided if he wanted to try it that bad they would furnish him an anchor line and a clothespin . He had already bought a leader from the pier. I left, I was going to eat at the grill since no kings had been landed recently . On the way back I MEET THIS GUY CARRYING A 20 LB KING! YES, ON THE 202! TREBLE LOCKED HIS JAWS. HOW'S THAT FOR LUCK? NO WAY? YES WAY!  |
