We just received the latest 'Bama rigs from Blue Water Candy in the TackleMonkey store (http://www.tacklemonkey.com/?AffId=2). These new rigs are going to SLAY the Spanish Mackerel & Atlantic Bonito! Both of these rigs can be cast from shore, pier or a boat or can be trolled behind a boat.

The Beach 'Bama (http://www.tacklemonkey.com/BWC-Beach-Bama-Rig_p_1099.html) has a painted lead head with five stainless wires each terminated with a snap swivel. On the end of each wire is a Clarkspoon in either silver or gold color.

The Spanish 'Bama (http://www.tacklemonkey.com/BWC-Spanish-Bama-Rig-_p_1098.html) has a painted lead head with five stainless wires each terminated with a snap swivel. On the end of each wire is a hook and a colored tube lure (like found on Mackerel Trees).

I am going to ask a stupid question. How are they doing casting? Are they getting tangled while in flight? I am guessing you have tested this. What size rod, distance are getting with them, what is the total weight when everything is on it?

They cast great! No tangles because the wires are all spread apart. Not sure of the total weight but the shipping weight (box and all) is under a pound without the mesh storage bag. These style rigs have been fished for a while now and have won a bunch of bass tourneys. BWC has adapted the concept to the salty stuff. I'm using a medium strength 7'0 rod with 15# braid. I haven't fished them for Bonito yet (they should be here soon) - I might need to up-size the gear a bit to handle two or more Bonito at one time but we'll see.
