When I arrived in NC 14 years ago, the Jacksonville Daily News ran an article on the mill ponds of eastern NC. These ponds are all over the place, but sadly, most are now in private hands. I know of four near Jacksonville with two being open to the public...Tulls Mill pond outside of Pink Hill and one that I can't think of right off the bat but is about 10 miles north of Richlands on Highway 58 heading towards Kinston. There is also one just as you enter the town of Trenton. I have seen evidence of fishing there but there is also a chain link fence surrounding the property.
