Hey everyone, hope yall had a great weekend. Boy we sure had a great time. I went out today with my dad, my son, a good friend and Richard Andrews of TarPam Guide. I have wanted to catch these big beautiful fish since I first saw them on the site back in 09. It was worth the wait! We met at Paradise Cove Marina near Merritt, NC. It was a beautiful morning but a little choppy. As we made our way out to the waypoint my son was big eyed and grinning from ear to ear as the boat took 2 ft swell straight on the bow. We anchored and threw the bait out and within 10 minutes we had our first fish on. My son took the honors of being the first one on the rod. He was very surprised at the power of the old fish (and so was I) but we finally muscled it in. It was an amazing fish and measured about 43 inches. The blues and other scavengers were tearing our bait up and we had to frequently rebait. On of them actually took the big 10/0 hook and we threw him in the cooler for cut bait. 5 minutes later when Richard tried to pull a mullet out of the cooler, that fish jumped 12 inches out of the cooler to bite him right on the finger. As he pulled his finger out with dripping blood everywhere another rod started screaming. It was a very chaotic couple of minutes but we finally stopped the bleeding and boated another drum. On the next cast, a seagull got wrapped in one of our lines. Richard freed the seagull and then another rod went off. This time my son had the pleasure of landing the biggest fish of the day, a 47 incher! The bite was pretty steady until about 1030. We caught 10 and then had to head in for more bait. After going to another spot we caught another 6 drum then headed in for the day.
It was an amazing day, one that we will not forget. I would highly recommend Richard as a guide. He was very knowledgable and easy going. He knew where the fish were and answered many questions I had about fishing in general.
By the way, my son did fall asleep on the way home but I didn't take a pic this time. He got mad at me last time for taking one!
Have a great week everyone.
