| saw this kayak trailer while snooping around on craigslist today: Galvanized Kayak Trailer got me thinking: wish i could get to the coast more, but it's expensive for the gas and lodging arrangements. if i/we had access to a trailer -- borrow, rent, whatever, we could share travel expenses on the way down. prob most of us now can only take one kayak per vehicle, tho some can fit two on their rack. i recall a conversation from another thread: how cheaply could one build a kayak trailer? i think someone mentioned getting one from harbor freight and modifying it to carry kayaks/canoes. any idea if anyone rents kayak trailers in the triangle area? another issue: lodging. i camped at the croatan national forest campground off VFW rd at cedar point a couple of weeks ago (just north of emerald isle). it's so miserably hot and humid at the coast this time of year, it just makes camping without a/c -- or at least a fan -- not very attractive to me (but i'm game to do it the other 3 seasons of the year.) last year i accompanied a diver friend to morehead city -- stayed with him at one of the diver bunkhouses for $25 a night. not great conditions -- people snoring, talking on cell phones at midnight, etc., but at least no mosquitoes and reasonably comfortable -- certainly affordable. any ideas for comparable lodging at the coast? this conversation might be most immediately relevant to triangle area anglers, but indirectly useful for those who live in other NC areas. it prob just too complicated to pull off. messy thread, i know -- just brainstorming -- and wishing i could go fishing at the coast more! // joel
