Kayak theft prevention?

I have read some articles regarding theft prevention for kayaks.
I keep mine in the garage but when on a fishing adventure it may be left on the SUV or left at the beach house/condo. I'm thinking cabled/chained and locked through the scuppers to the vehicle frame or a building support beam.
What do other NC kayak anglers do to prevent theft?
