Default beware of elk

took my son to the cataloochee area of the GSMNP today to try out my new 3 weight. left pretty early so we could beat the tourist traffic on the little dirt road leading to the valley, so we got there about 15 minutes before sunrise, got the waders on and started to walk up one of the feeder streams when the laurel bushes exploded right in front of us. couldn't quite see so the only thing running through my mind was that we had jumped a bear. A couple of seconds later two cow elk come running down the path by us . my son swears that i yelled like a girl, but I have been trying to explain to him that it was an ancient yell that scares off bears. he didn't believe me. kids 12 and he thinks he knows everything
