To fly fish or not?

Lemme ask you guys a question....... Im thinkin about pickin up fly fishin but am not familiar with how its done or any thing about it for that matter....... I live right near the deep river and can always see small pan fish eating from tha top of the water and I feel like this would be an awesome way to catch some of those fish. Would it be a good idea to buy one of the pre-rigged outfits from Gander MNT or Dicks sportin goods? I need help on this one? Thanks guys.
