Fly rod wt for Bass I am a somewhat inexperienced trout fisherman converting to lake fishing. I have a 4wt 8ft scott and a 2wt 6ft generic for the small streams. Those have both served me very well in the mountains. The little 2wt is a load of fun and I can cast in small places where a larger rod would be very difficult. Great stuff. (thanks ebay!) Now I want to start fishing the lakes around Chapel Hill/Raleigh/Durham. I got myself a nice jon boat and I'm nearly ready. So what weight and size rod should I pick up for fishing around here? I am sure the 4wt would be good for crapie and other smallies - but what if i want to try my hand at some bass? I was thinking about a 6wt 8 ft. Would that be good or should I move up to a 7wt? If I can, I would like to stick with a 6wt so i can pick up a Lamson Konik 2.0(5/6wt) reel to match my Konic 1.5 (3/4wt). A conical drag system on a $130 reel is fantastic! Unfortunatly you need to double the price to get a conical drag above the 5/6wt as far as i have seen. |
