Default Neuse shad or stripers

I am a footbound fly fisher in the Raleigh area looking for spots on the Neuse to catch shad or stripers. I have hit Milburnie in Knightdale many times but usually to no avail. One striper and small crappie in many, many trips to the dam. Tonight included. What luck do others have out there or others areas on the Neuse that may be reasonable for fly fishing by wading or shore. Tired of getting skunked for shad. I have been using intermediate or sinking lines with clousers, light shad darts, or streamers.
