Talking 1st Old Red Drum!

Went fishing last night out of Oriental, NC with a friend from Raleigh and Oriental guide and friend Capt. Mark Hoff (Duke of Fluke) for Big Red Drum. We got three in the boat (estimated 35 lb. male, 40 lb. and 45 lb. females), lost two at the boat (one had to be 60 lbs!) and broke off five more. It was a great night of fishing for these magnificent fish. What a pleasure to experience them (ain't God good!) and to know that they are protected for us to catch another day.

Capt. Mark Hoff is a great guy to fish with and truly loves to fish himself. If you're interested in Red Drum, speckled trout, flounder or Tarpon fishing in the Pamlico Sound/Neuse River, check out Mark's website. He'll get you on some fish if they are to be found. Thanks Mark! Sweet Water Charters

BTW we used the Old Drum rigs handmade by Oriental angler Capt. Owen Lupton. The rigs worked really well and resulted in a successful catch and release of each of the fish boated. I've attached a photo of the rigs so you can see what they look like. The large circle hook and short leader facilitate minimizing deep hooking these great fish. In fact all of the fish we caught had the hook in the corner of their mouths just like advertised. Check out this article on the rigs: http://www.ncangler.com/forums/showt...ht=owen+lupton

And you can buy Capt. Owen Lupton's Majik Drum Rigs in our eStore! They come two rigs per pack.

We had a great time and here are some pics!
