| I wanted to let all our members know about an important volunteer initiative underway in North Carolina as a tangible way to support our troops. MAD (Military Appreciation Day) will be held at the US Coast Guard station at Fort Macon on Armed Forces Day, May 19, 2007. The primary goal of the event is to take 500 active duty military personnel, men and women, for a day of fishing followed by a celebration for the military personnel and their families. MAD is an organization that is in the process of being incorporated as a non-profit entity. The day will start with boats departing from the USCG at 4:30 AM although arrangements for earlier departures can be made. The Captain’s Meeting will be May 18th at 6:00 PM and will feature a site walk through as well as food and beverages. We will post more details on the event as they become available to us. NCangler.com new member Squid Row is one of the organizers of the event and he tells me that a website is in the works where more information will be available. The website should be up and running by the first of the year. You can check it out here: Military Appreciation Day If you own a boat and are comfortable taking someone offshore to fish, this may be an opportunity for you to say thank you to our military personnel. You can voice your support for this initiative here and we'll post more information as it is available. God bless our troops!
