Re-introduction Hey Y'all,
I've been back, poking around the site for a couple a weeks, but haven't posted anything and I'm getting tired of the "Hello ParrotHead, why haven't you posted anything in weeks? You slacker" message at the top of my screen. So here goes....
Been working way too much to do any serious fishing for months, but I did catch my 1st flounder of the year out of the White Oak a couple or 3 weeks back. That's a great sign 'cause it's several weeks ahead of when we usually start seeing nice flatties in the area. For those who don't know or remember, I usually fish in about a 1 mile section of the WO about 5 miles upriver of Swansboro. I caught this one from the dock in about 18 inches of water, right under my feet. AND Topsail Angler, you'll not be surprised that it was with the old faithful Electric Chicken.
Another fish story/report....I had to attend work related training this past weekend...BOOOO, but it was in Altalntic Beach...Hooray! I spent about 45 minutes exercising my right forearm on Saturday afternoon with a light rig and Gothca plug (white w/ red head) and caught 5 blues from the Oceana pier. I saw lots of spanish in coolers, but none caught. I returned Sunday morning and plugged away with my gotcha from about 5 'til 8:30 caught a bunch of blues, never landed a spanish, but saw dozens taken. The 2 largest macks were ~17 and ~22 inches which make for fun catching and good eating. I couldn't keep the blues off my line long enough to get my allotment of spanish, but it was a blast all the same. My last cast and the end of my only white Gotcha left was a spectacular arial display from a good sized spanish that cut me off. After that the bottle-nosed dolphin showed up and the bite died.
I'll be camping with the cub scouts this weekend and don't expect to be able to wet a line much, but next weekend will be on the White Oak. I'll keep y'all posted!
