Default Stripers on the Roanoke

Fished the Roanoke close to Plymouth on Friday -- we fished where the river runs into the sound. Fishing was good - 40+ stripers caught by 10:30am but none where in the slot. The only one that may have been a keeper got the quick release next to the boat. After catching stripers for an hours, I got slack in setting the hook so the one that may have been a keep made it to boat side then decided that was close enough and spit hook.
The hot lures were deep diving crankbaits in silver shad with red eyes and smithwick rattlin' rogue in a raccoon perch pattern.
We saw several people trolling, they were catching fish, but we were doing better casting. Everyone we talked with said they had not caught any of legal size.
