Surf City Pier Report for Mon. thru Thurs. Boys, this week was a bad one. Tuesday morning, missed a King early. didn't see the fish, but, my bait was sliced like a knife, nice and straight. I've never seen a King bite the head off of a bait, but, I have now. He missed my front hook by 1/8 of an inch, and didn't come back for seconds. I tried my old trick, of tugging lightly on the fighting rod, trying to get him to come back and get the rest of the bait, but, he didn't. 45 minutes later, had another strike, but, don't know if that was him or not.
Wednesday evening, had a 7 foot Spinner Shark, grab my bait, and put on a nice aerial show..................right before he bit my 60# wire into!! There were a few smaller sharks caught, in the 3-4 ft range. The smaller Sharks were a nuisance to say the least. I did get one enticed to hit a Bucktail, with a big strip of Mullet off of another guy's bait. (He asked me to, LOL) Caught him on my Ambassadeur 6500, with 15# test. Man!! that was fun!!
We did see at least one Tarpon a day, but, they'd come up in the baits, look around, and swim off..........no takers. The water was beautiful all week, and still is today.
As far as the rest of the pier, there were a couple of nice Flounder in the 3-4 lb range, Sheepshead, about the same size, a few Blues in the evening, on Diamond Jigs, no Spanish at all! |
