Topsail Island Trip

Knowing that chances for full on fishing were slim I made the trip to Topsail Island this weekend. Just as predicted the wind was out of the northeast cooling the water but also keeping the nats down to a tolerable level. Went out with Topsail Angler FRI. evening to some prime redfish feeding areas. We were there for the prime part of the incoming tide but the fish seemed a little lazy. I think we both missed 3 decent fish but not to be outdone he did manage a runt flounder and a small blue. I felt like I was reacting a little too quick to sluggish fish and not giving them enough time. I also noted that even though I felt we were among plenty of redfish they were not visibly chasing bait as you would normally expect. MY read on the redfish and probably trout was that they were just being sluggish due to the sudden temperature drop. SAT. opted not to fish as I had a little catching up to do. I did a tour of the piers and can verify the Topsail Angler report. Seaview was mostly sea mullet (whiting). Surf City was a mix of sea mullet and small blues and Jolly Roger was mostly small blues. I did a tour of the tackle shops and found them well stocked. If you can't find what you need at East Coast Sports or Herron's on the Island try Doug's Tackle Service on HWY 50 just east of Holly Ridge. AL
