2005 Waterfowl Stamp and Print Portrait Available July 1

RALEIGH, N.C. (June 16) — “Green-winged Teal at J. Morgan Futch Game Land,” the 2005 Waterfowl Stamp and Print portrait, will be available from the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission on July 1. Signed and numbered regular edition prints with mint stamps will sell for $145.

This year’s print, based on an acrylic portrait by Pennsylvania artist Gerald W. Putt, portrays a pair of brilliantly colored green-winged teal at rest on the popular waterfowl impoundment, which is located in Tyrrell County. The acrylic portrait is the fourth in a series of five paintings that reflect waterfowl hunting traditions on Commission-owned game lands and impoundments.

The purchase of waterfowl hunting stamps and prints is an important source of revenue for waterfowl conservation and restoration projects in North Carolina. Money from the sale of stamps and prints goes into the Waterfowl Fund, which supports projects such as the satellite tracking of pintail ducks to determine their migration and movement. Since its inception in 1983, the fund has raised more than $4.2 million.
