Exclamation No Closed Season for Bass in Piedmont Reservoirs

RALEIGH, N.C. (July 30) – A daily creel limit of five fish that are at least 16 inches long applies year-round for bass anglers fishing B. Everett Jordan, Falls of the Neuse and Buckhorn reservoirs.

The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission’s 2007-2008 Inland Fishing, Hunting and Trapping Regulations Digest incorrectly states that there is a closed season for bass fishing from Dec. 1 though March 31 on these reservoirs. However, the closed-season regulation applies to Sutton Lake in New Hanover County where it has been in effect since July 1996 to limit the excessive harvest of bass during the winter.

Jordan Reservoir is located primarily in Chatham County; Falls of Neuse Reservoir in Wake, Durham and Granville counties; and Buckhorn Reservoir in Wilson and Nash counties.

Along with the news release, the Commission is advising the public of the error by sending out letters to bass fishing organizations, notifying Wildlife Service Agents statewide, and posting fliers of the correct regulation at access areas on the reservoirs.

A corrected version of the digest page is available for download at www.ncwildlife.org. For more information, call the agency’s Division of Inland Fisheries, (919) 707-0220.
