Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education plans special events

A historic big-bore, flintlock punt gun used in the earliest days of market hunting at Currituck Sound will be on special exhibit this month at the Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education, Corolla. The N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences has temporarily loaned the nine and a half-foot long gun to the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission. The display will be unveiled on Oct. 1.

Also on Oct. 1, Currituck County native Travis Morris will be signing copies of his recently published book, "Duck Hunting on Currituck Sound: Tales from a Native Gunner" from 1-4 p.m. Best known for his many years as a hunter and hunting guide, Morris is knowledgeable on both the history and natural resources of the northeast corner of North Carolina.
