Swan Hunting Opportunities Extended to Youth Organizations

RALEIGH, N.C. (Sept. 18) - The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is again offering a special opportunity to help young people enjoy outdoor recreation.

Up to 10 swan hunting permits will be issued annually to qualifying, nongovernmental organizations, for youth under 16. The goal is to get young people involved in hunting and conservation.

"We want to share the heritage and tradition of waterfowl hunting with the next generation and this is a great way to do it," said David Cobb, chief of the Division of Wildlife Management. "Young people who get involved in hunting also become the conservationists who help protect natural resources."

Applications should include all contact information for the group representative, including name, day and evening phone numbers, address and name of organization. If the number of applications exceeds the number of permits, a lottery will be used to determine awards. A $10 application fee is required for awarded permits only.

Selected youths' information will be required at least 15 weekdays before they hunt.
