Advice for Ocean Isle area...

I am invited to spend the Memorial Day weekend at a friend's beach house there, with access to both the sound and ocean. I have decided to bring one of my kayaks, and should have 2 or three days to fish.

My questions are:

1. Sound or sea (or both)?
2. What kinds of fish to expect in each?
3. Any specific tips on bait / tackle?
4. Anyone know of good bait shops or outfitters in the area?
