Default Beaufort, NC 2-3-08 Report

What began as a chilly start soon warmed to a spring-like 65 degrees that had the fish eating out of your hands, well.. almost. Marsh water temps are still holding mid-lower 50’s and are still gin-clear after .50 rain from the 1st. As bait becomes scarcer you would think our finned friends would attack just about anything, right?. Not always true - some may give in but most will pursue your lure with some level of caution. A number of the 17 Red Drum I landed were visible as they first noticed the lure, chased it with determination, slowed up for closer inspection, then pounced on it with no change in lure action. What’s the difference in bites to having them turn their noses? I think what helps close the deal is scent. Scented baits have been around quite some time. You can merely tip your bait with natural bait, artificial, such as Fish Bites, or my favorite, Berkley Gulp you’re hook-ups will likely increase.
