Default Beaufort, NC report 1-6-08

Wow, it’s hard to believe that we hit 64 degrees today after last weeks cold snap. Having had the water temps drop nearly 15 degrees, I expected the drum bite to be a little down in the sounds, so I decided to hit some protected shallow creeks that were warmer. The Drum were abundant but somewhat reluctant to feed. I did managed to entice fifteen Drum, 3 on the fly that were sight-cast catches. Also boated 4 quality Trout, two 21” four lbers a 20” and a 19” all on Gulp jerk shad. As the sun began to set, Drum activity increased ten-fold, with countless exposed backs and tails prowling the mud flats. Beautiful sight to end a great day on the water!
