I went out to Bath Saturday to get my Trident wet for the first time. As I got into town it began raining and I realized I didn't have any jacket or pants. It eventually cleared up and I put in at Quarterdeck. I'd like to give a big thanks to them because they are letting kayakers launch for free from their shop, just don't park in the trailer spots.
I went north under the bridge and began my routine of flipping docks. Nothing came from the eastern bank and when I began hitting the west bank the rain kicked in again. I managed to hide under a boat (seriously ) until it cleared up. I got two hits north of the bridge but that was it, they wouldn't come back after it after a couple more tries. I headed to the mouth of Back Creek to see if any flounder were around the ledge there. At the last dock I had a flounder explode and come clean out of the water after a spinnerbait. The rain started up again and I hid out under another dock before it cleared up and I left.
I really like the Ocean Kayak Trident. I pulled into a smaller creek out of the wind and was able to stand and fly fish from it with no problem. It's very forgiving if you lean to far to one side or the other. The Rod Pod is awesome, I had 3 spinning rods (rigged with a spinnerbait, popping cork, and Mirrolure without tangling) with me which I was able to keep inside the kayak when not in use. A 9' fly rod will not fit inside unless you take it apart first. I can get my freshwater rod inside without taking it apart but it's 8 feet long. The Rod Pod hatch kit is on back order right now so I borrowed one off a shop demo. On the angler boats this is connected to the hatch with a leash which doesn't allow much length to take it off. I prefer not having this leash as I could put the hatch in the tankwell when working inside with the rods. The rudder is great, as usual, but of all the ones I've ever used this is by far the smoothest operating one. It easy to install but the pictures could be much better in the instruction book.
Anyway, heres the three pictures I took. Two of me hiding from the rain and one of the rod pod in action.
