I went out to Dinah's Landing early this morning after getting a Mirrolure out of my dogs nose... I paddled to the mouth of the creek and fishing for about 2 hours with no hits.
I packed up and headed to River Time Outfitters to try my luck in Back Creek. While I was there I admired the stake out poles that he has in stock from "Stick It". Philip had told me all about the one he bought. I caved in to the urge and bought the 7' version (about $80). After using it I think this is probably the best thing I've ever bought for kayak fishing. It fit easily into my anchor trolley and held strong. At one time I probably only had about 6 inches of the pole in mud with the handle just above the surface of the water. I kept thinking it would slip but it never let go. It's very small in diameter compared to the Capt. Dick Stake Out Pole (and Hobie's less than creative stolen design...) It's solid fiberglass and does not float but they provide all the rope you need that is designed to tie yourself off to it so that you can't lose it. Flip it over and it makes a great push pole. Their website (Stick It Anchor Pins) says it has a 30,000lbs tensile strength. I'm including a picture of mine. As you can see it will get down deep into the mud.
Oh yeah, I caught one redfish under a dock with a spinnerbait...
