| Fished the heavily pressured Graham-Mebane Reservoir in search of bedded Bass Thursday. Weather was beautiful, clear skies, light breeze, high of 76 degrees, and water temps right at 70 degrees. This body of water can be a challenge because of the amount of pressure it receives. Started off slinging a popper on the fly as sunfish were feeding on top. Landed three before moving on to Bass. During the hunt I was able to spot two nice ladies on the bed. Who knows how many lures they’ve had thrown at them over the past few days but they weren’t interested in busting anything I was offering - lizards, worms, jigs, spinners, you name it, they ignored it. It always mystifies me, when power boaters run full throttle from one spot to another.. flying in to a spot, throw down the trolling motor, and start casting as the boat’s still rocking for their wake, yet they’re coming up blanks. Had one boat fly in near me doing this, as I’m standing in my Ultimate working a brush pile, they start trolling closer to me, then bam!, out of the brush busts this cutie latched onto a 3/8 oz spinner. Then I hear, “Oh man, he’s got one”, from one of power boaters. The fish wasn’t big by any means but the bite was what I was after. Highlight of the day was watching the bewildered look on the face of one of the largest Grey Fox I’ve ever seen, as it came to the waters edge, a mere 40 yards from me, and curiously watched as I fished. It cocked it’s head, when I asked... what’s up buddy? Cost of spending part of a great day on the water - about one gallon of gas to get there and back plus a $4 launch fee. Showing power boaters you don’t have to spend 30k on a boat to catch fish - priceless. April 24, 2008 Photo link |
