Default Fishing with older Gentelmen

I wanted to expound on one of the posts I read from Sinker Man. I love fishing with the older gentelmen. I have a fishing buddy that has been fishing for at least 40 of his 55 years of age. He is a very intelligent guy but you would never know it. He is fairly quiet, and loves to fish. He has more knowledge about fishing than I will ever know. He has fished all over the world Gulf, Alaska, Maine, Mexico, the Bay and NC. He is just what Sinker Man said, knows the birds, knows the backwaters, how to read the fish relative to the tides and is just a plethera of knowledge. I can't ask him enough questions about fishing. With my 15 years of fishing and only being 28 years of age, I feel that there is so much to learn.

These are the guys that you see at the dock that are going out when you are coming in. They are the ones in a boat that is 1/2 the size of yours, that catches double the fish you have. These are the ones that come in dry when you are soaking wet on a windy day. These are the guys that come in two hours with there limit and you caught one fish that wasn't even of size all day. They will never say much. Most of the time fish with one other guy or by himself. They are weathered and experienced. . . plain and simple.

To all the young guys, Hint #1. . .Find an old guy that loves to fish, or just fish near them. Don't try to talk to them very much just let them see you messing up and or not catching fish. It may not be the first time or the second but it will eat away at them till the come up to you and start preaching. Hint #2. . .Don't interupt them for this informations is gospel in the fishing world. If they see that you know it all then they will shut up and not say much to you again. Hint #3. . . Let him physically show you the tricks. When he tells you where to go and how to fish the area, offer to take him or ride with him to the area or in your seperat boats.

With these three hints learned you will finally start catching fish. You will learn tons of facts, rigs, holes, and that locals know about fishing that area. You will gain a new friend that may end up helping you out of a jam one day. Lastly, you will be helping him out more than you will ever know. Till next time. . .
