| Decided I had to go fishing sometime this weekend and did not want to deal with boat ramps. Made it over to Wake Reservoir about 8:30 or so and put in the yak. Started with a little wind out of the south, used it to float fish down the eastern bank. Did not get any fish until reaching the second cove from the end. Water varied from 4 to less than 1 foot deep, but I managed to catch 4 or 5 small bass there. Three were 8-9", one was about a foot, and one was maybe twice the size of the Mepps spinner I was using. Cove is pretty small, so that may have been all the bass in there, anyway they stopped hitting. Came back out and floated down to the last cove. Picked up one bass on a live red worm and one on the spinner. Wind had come up by then, so just slogged my way back up to the dam. No whitecaps, but some of those wind gusts really were discouraging. Finally made it there and loaded up without trouble. Seems the reservoir is getting more popular, saw 3-4 yaks, 2 sculling boats, one inflatable pontoon, a canoe, several jons of various sizes, and one Polar bay boat. Also some shore fishermen. The guys I talked to only reported small bass as well, not sure where the panfish are hiding. Stopped by Upper Bartons Creek ramp at Falls on the way out. It was 11:30 and the lower lot was 80% filled, and some overflow in the upper lot. Past a lot of boats headed that way on 98 on my way home, so was probably a typical Memorial Day there this afternoon.
