Falls Lake - 09-02-2008 (Kayak) The holiday weekenders left me the keys to Falls Lake when they went home last night, so I headed out this morning for a pre-work paddle. Surprised to find about a dozen trailers in the Upper Barton lot at 7:30 when I launched. Got one fish right away, a small largemouth, within sight of the ramp. Found lots of fog as I moved out toward the main lake - pic below is looking out from the mouth of upper barton creek - the lake channel and island should be to the right of the point.. Did not see a ton of bait in Upper Barton, but out near the mouth there were some breaking pods of fish. I put that new freestyle jig into the middle of every one I could reach, with nothing to show for it. Not improving my confidence in that bait. Wound up getting 3 or 4 more in a mix of average sized whites and small largemouth. Nothing over a pound. All of them wanted the sz 5 shad rap in firetiger. No takes on white, chrome or silver/black. May try again for Thursday ahead of Hanna.
4th picture is from a quick run down to the Neuse below Falls Dam Friday night. Caught 4 sunfish and this skinny river bass on rooster tail and yozuri minnow, just above the canoe launch. I figure this should pretty much cover my annual quota for small fish...
