| Decided to fish Kerr for a couple of hours after work today. Right decision! Headed to one of my favorite coves, dropped a line in, and within 30 seconds had a fish! It was a small white perch, and white perch was indeed the catch of the day. Landed about 15, nothing big, but a good time. All caught on crappie minnows in about 20 feet of water, near the bottom, from about 5:30 to 7:30 pm. At the ramp, asked two different bass anglers about their luck and both reported great success. By the way, at the bait shop I ran into our local wildlife officer, Eddie Vaughn. Asked for a courtesy boat inspection and he gladly obliged. I wasn't sure if I had the right fire extinguisher since most of the "marine" ones are white and mine's red. Turns out you just have to read the fine print and make sure it's USCG approved. My red one is. Second, wanted to know if my stern light was tall enough, he said it just has to be taller than anything else on the boat so it's visible from all directions. Engine is the tallest thing on my boat, so my light was OK. Might head out tomorrow and try for crappie and/or catfish. I'll let you know! |
