Tar River Reservoir - July 08,2006

Took the kayak to the tar river reservoir this morning, got on the water about 6 AM. The water was about 1-2 feet higher than "normal" from the previous rains and the water looked like weak tea. Didn't think I would have much luck but it turned out better than expected. Caught a little dink (bass) within 10 minutes on a plastic minnow. Switched over to a Pop-R and caught several more, one a 2.5 lb'r. About 7:30 some bass were busting shad on the surface and I caught 3 before they quit, largest about 3 #. Paddled around throwing the Pop-R into the weeds and managed to hook another bass about 3.5 #. Ended up catching 7 bass altogether and had several more strikes.

On Monday, I went briefly to the reservoir and only caught 1 fish. It appeared to be a 2' jack that was pulling me in the kayak before it went airborn and broke my line.

I'm having a lot of hits on some new lures I picked up at Wal-mart. They are the Darting Shad and Shad lures by Renosky The Shad lure is what the Jack and my largest bass hit.
