| Knew the weather was going to be nasty today, so set out to do a little shore fishing instead of dragging the boat to Kerr. Started at Upper Bartons Creek on Falls. Fished a chartreuse 2" mister twister around the left pier and the shore to the left of it. Switched to an inline white Mepps spinner. Rain just starting up after a half hour or so without a hit so moved on. There were some fish hitting the surface, not sure what kind though. Went over to the tailrace at Falls. Rain coming down fairly heavy. Started out on the shore to the dam side of the parking lot. Waded into maybe 6" of water and fan casted the area. Felt like maybe two hits, but no hookup. Walked up the sidewalk to the concrete tunnel area and threw some casts, which were whipped right back out by the current. On the way out of there I noticed a nice sized fish further downstream jumping its way through the current. Crossed the parking lot and took the wood steps to the shore near the bridge, fan cast that area and also felt a couple of hits. Anyway, no fish there when I got too wet/cold to take any more. Finally hit Wake Forest reservoir on the way home. Picked up one fiesty little 8-9" largemouth casting towards the main lake from the wood bridge in the little stream/cut by the ramp. Success! I was no longer skunked. Got out of there and was home by about 11:30 am. |
